This rare antique umbrella stand, dating from circa 1860–1870, is a whimsical and imaginative example of French design from the Napoleon III period. Crafted from enameled cast iron in the form of a slightly opened umbrella, it features intricate openwork panels and is topped with a sculptural hand grasping a cane-shaped handle: a playful and unexpected detail that adds to its charm. The soft green patina enhances its fanciful silhouette, reflecting the era's flair for merging artistry with utility.
While the piece shows a break in one area and has some missing soldering, these imperfections do little to affect its structural integrity or visual appeal.
Originally intended for a refined Parisian entryway, it now offers a unique and character-rich accent for contemporary interiors.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
