A delightful expression of Provençal charm, this pair of Vallauris ceramic casseroles brings the rustic soul of the French countryside to the table. Each hand-thrown and hand-painted, one features a strutting rooster in warm ochre and russet tones, while the other displays a stately black turkey with delicate plumage details both painted on the interior. The exterior is decorated with simple green stripes continuing onto the solid, straight handles evocative of the utilitarian farmhouse aesthetics.
Crafted in the historic pottery town of Vallauris in the South of France, famously revived in the mid-20th century by artists such as Picasso, these casseroles reflect the region’s rich legacy of expressive, utilitarian ceramics. Likely dating from the 1960s, they are not individually signed but bear the Vallauris mark on the underside, attesting to their provenance. Display them stacked in an open shelf or use them to serve rustic fare at a long wooden table: they bring a touch of whimsical elegance to any country kitchen.
