The 20-year-old winger is a product of Rangers’ academy and since the arrival of Philippe Clement at Ibrox, McCausland has racked up five senior appearances for the team.
Before the international break, on his first start for Rangers against Livingston, McCausland turned some heads with his performance and it has been suggested that several clubs are interested in acquiring the services of the talented forward.
Ferguson pointed out that McCausland’s contract with Rangers is set to expire in June and he added that he is aware that a host of clubs are interested in the Gers starlet.
He admitted that the young winger has shown his worth in a short period, but cautioned McCausland that a move out of Ibrox this early in his career might hinder his development.
“McCausland has only got another six months left on his current contract and already the rumour mill has started up with Record Sport revealing the likes of Brentford and a number of teams in Italy said to be showing interest”, Ferguson wrote in his Daily Record column.
“I have absolutely no doubt that they are.
“The Scottish market is now seen as rich pickings especially after the success of the likes of my nephew Lewis, Aaron Hickey and Josh Doig.
“And McCausland has shown enough in a short space of time to suggest he’s more than worth a punt.
“But he also has to think about what’s best for his career and, while I have no doubt he could follow the likes of Lewis to Serie A, he shouldn’t be in any rush to move on at this early stage in his development.”
It is suggested that Italian outfits Roma and Atalanta are closely monitoring McCausland’s situation and Premier League outfit Brentford have also shown interest in the player.
