Eddie Howe’s side have been hit hard by injuries and they are expected to go into the transfer market when the window swings open in just over a month’s time.
Adding another attacker has been mooted and Newcastle chased the services of Ekitike, who is on the books at Paris Saint-Germain, in the summer transfer window.
Despite it appearing Ekitike would move on a frantic deadline day, he stayed at PSG, but he could be on the move in January.
Newcastle have been linked with a swoop to sign the 21-year-old on a loan deal.
However, while Newcastle do rate Ekitike, as shown by their interest in the summer, they are not currently chasing him.
The Magpies have no plans at present to launch a loan swoop for Ekitike.
Whether the club might rethink their position in the weeks left before the transfer window opens remains to be seen.
Ekitike will be looking to make sure he is playing on a regular basis at whichever club he joins in January.
