This elegant French banquette, likely crafted in the early 20th century, is a refined interpretation of the Restauration style from the first half of the 19th century. Also known as a méridienne, the piece features a graceful asymmetrical backrest that flows into sculptural swan-neck arms, lending it a poised, neoclassical silhouette. The walnut frame has developed a rich, warm patina over time, with a few old wormholes adding authentic character and a sense of history.
The banquette stands on two front claw feet and two rear sabre legs, a hallmark of early 19th-century French aesthetics. The seat and back have been traditionally reupholstered in an almond green fabric, offering a soft, natural palette trimmed with subtle decorative braid.
While essentially decorative, this banquette would be stunning at the foot of a bed or placed in an entryway, offering a graceful spot to drop bags, lace up shoes, and welcome guests with charm.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
