This antique French pitcher, crafted from dark-patinated wood and iron, originates from a winemaking region in France, possibly Provence or Burgundy, and dates to the early 1900s. Originally used for serving wine, it features a barrel-shaped body made from vertical wooden staves bound by hand-forged iron bands and a large sweeping handle. The exterior features a rich, almost black patina, lending the piece a bold and sculptural presence. Although the wood has shifted slightly with age and the piece is no longer watertight, its authenticity and handmade character remain deeply intact.
Today, this French rustique pitcher makes an evocative decorative accent, perfect for use as a statement piece in a kitchen, wine cellar, or country-style interior. It works beautifully as a vase for dried flowers, or with a liner if you wish to fill it with fresh blooms, offering a poetic contrast between the rustic vessel and the softness of seasonal arrangements. Whether placed on a farmhouse table or displayed on a shelf, this charming piece brings depth, texture, and a touch of French rural history to any space.
