This distinctive French wall-mounted cutlery strainer, crafted from richly glazed terracotta, features three perforated compartments with striking jaspé-style slip decoration against a deep, lustrous dark glaze. It is dated 1977 and inscribed with "Vive Cliou," paying homage to the pottery village of Cliousclat in the Drôme. The hand-applied decoration and subtle variations in the glazing give it an authentic, timeworn character.
The piece echoes the traditional utilitarian pottery designs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, complete with two holes at the top for easy wall mounting. It reflects a historical blend of practicality and visual appeal, inspired by the traditional French kitchens where such wall racks were everyday essentials. These items weren’t just functional but added decorative interest to the home.
Perfect for adding a rustic French touch to a kitchen this wall-mounted rack can serve as both a functional organizer and an eye-catching decorative piece. Use it to store cutlery, utensils, or even to hold small potted herbs, bringing a sense of heritage and craftsmanship into your home.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
