This charming English letterbox, dating from the 1950s, is crafted entirely from cast iron and features a beautifully timeworn red patina, softened by natural fading, areas of exposed metal, and light surface rust. The front panel is decorated with a raised relief of a rider on horseback, adding narrative charm. On the mail slot, the word "LETTERS" is cast into the surface. The letterbox is topped with a delightful pitched roof designed to resemble classic roof tiles, giving it the look of a miniature house. It stands on an elegant pedestal with a square, tiered base that includes pre-drilled holes for secure mounting to the ground, ideal for outdoor placement in a garden or beside an entryway.
Although the front door no longer has a latch, the piece remains structurally sound and full of personality. Whether used functionally or as a decorative focal point, this piece brings a sense of whimsy and quaint charm, evoking the storybook spirit of an English country garden and adding character to any outdoor or interior setting.
